Quantum Cascade Lasers

Light emitters based on intersubband transitions:

Quantum Cascade Laser Physics

Our group is interested in the physics of intersubband transitions in III-V heterostructures. The research concentrates on Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL) for the short mid-infrared spectral range within the first atmospheric window (3-5 µm).

We are interested in:

  • growth of novel and strain compensated materials for QC lasers
  • optimiziation of processing methods for QCL devices
  • characterization of QCL devices above and below threshold
  • characterization of QCLs in magnetic fields
  • applications of short-wavelength QCLs
  • physics of intersubband detectors (QWIP)

Some basic principles of QCLs are descibed here
