New anomalies in superconformal field theories

In recent years there has been considerable interest in computing partition functions of supersymmetric field theories on curved backgrounds using localisation methods. These computations led to a rather surprising discovery: supersymmetry is anomalous in 4d N=1 SCFTs with anomalous R symmetry. This talk will explain the origin of this anomaly, using both Wess-Zumino consistency conditions and perturbative arguments. The anomaly first arises in one loop contributions to four point functions involving two global currents and two supercurrents, in a way that is directly analogous to the usual triangle anomaly. We will conclude by discussing the implications of this anomaly.

Coffee and tea will be offered half an hour before the start of the colloquium.
